BeiLin's Journal Entry 3
We made it through Serpent’s pass. I would have written sooner, but the last few days have been full ones to say the least. After we left Winbu, we were stopped at an outpost along the road by “Earth Kingdom” guards. I say “Earth Kingdom” because they wore the uniforms, but their road tax story smelled fishy. When they didn’t know the BeiFong family name, or even the name of the Earth King, I was done listening. I commend the team for backing me up and making the road to Ba Sing Se safer for travelers to come. Once we made it to Wuu, our fourth member was waiting for us. Finally, we are a whole team. I was beginning to worry that would have to pick up an alternate once we arrived at the tournament. Lakoda is his name, from the Northern Water Tribe, or Southern. I can’t remember. At any rate, that night raiders hit the town. We did our best to hold them out, and Lakoda and Zero were advantageous in putting out the building fires they had started. The townspeople wanted to pay us for stopping the raid. I suggested breakfast instead. So that next morning after breakfast, I set out to acquire an ostrich-horse for our newest member. Hyun, a member of the Earth King’s court, had purchased all of the ostrich-horses from the only stable in town. I told him about the bandit imposters and turned over their uniforms we had confiscated. He was grateful, and let me buy one of the ostrich-horses off of him. That night we reached Full Moon Bay and decided it would be best not to brave Serpent’s Pass at night. We were right. Apparently, someone Zero met that night left to make it through the pass. We found her today, floating in the river. And the strange thing is her face was gone. Not cut off or torn by an animal, it was just gone. I can’t explain it any more than that. We brought her body with us and buried her here at camp.
