BeiLin's Journal Entry 1

Today was our first day of travel back to Ba Sing Se for the tournament. I still can’t believe I was chosen to compete. Father and mother have never been advocates of violent competition. I would have thought they would keep an invitation from reaching Sifu Shou for sure. I never did get to see the letter myself. Here I am, though, going home. Last night after dinner, the Air Nomad arrived. A girl named Mayu. She doesn’t talk much, but she doesn’t have the chip on her shoulder that this Zero character seems to be carrying around. So far they both seem pretty competent in their bending. I feel like as long as we can learn to work as a team, we could have a pretty good chance of advancing in the tournament. We’re still a day or so out from Winbu, but we already have a place to stay when we arrive. The Lubei’s promised us use of their summer home in Winbu on account of us rescuing them from some people who had hoped to hold them for ransom after we found their children lost in the woods. It was a lucky thing we found them before they set sail down the river. Call me boring, but I hope tomorrow is less eventful.
